30th June
So, we had been in San Antoni until the 18th when we went to Cala Porroig, all the days at anchor or on a buoy except one day when we went into the harbour for 1 night to take on water. The water usage is now increasing slightly since the weather has become much hotter, we are washing on-board rather than using the showers on-shore because we are at anchor, but we can still do about two and a half to three weeks before running the tanks empty.
After Porroig we went to Formentera for a couple of nights on the Posidonia moorings then went back to Porroig and back to San Antoni where we had to go to get Carolyn checked out by the doctor (pains in back & leg) who diagnosed sciatica. The private clinics wanted 110 euro just to have a consultation then extra for treatment (and anything else, x-ray, bed, etc) but we went to the local hospital (on Sunday) who are open 24hours for urgent cases and after photo-copying the plastic card (that has replaced the E111 ) and signing the form we were seen within 20 minutes and left after the consultation, injection & pain-killers and had nothing to pay. Excellent service but being able to speak the local language is a definite requirement. The pain is lessening and mobility returning slowly but no more running, carrying heavy loads or doing the anchor for one who finds it difficult to sit still for any length of time….
We were in S Antoni for 5 nights and then moved up to anchor at the north west corner of the island at Cala Portinatx (1 night) and then onto San Telmo for another night and we are now on our second night in the Port of Soller (again). The first night we spent at anchor and have moved into a Port Authority berth for 2 nights and will do the sight-seeing train-trip this time in Soller. Weather has stabilised to something like the summer as it’s meant to be so it can be very hot and sticky during the day and difficult to cool the boat down for the night. Mosquitoes are a real pest and drive me crazy unless I can be certain that I have managed to get every last one before we go to bed - and the sea is now warm enough (for us) to swim so we’ve had a look under the boat to check the anode, propeller etc.
We also went to a local bar last night to watch Spain beat Germany at football and what a great night we had – the place was jumpin’! What a noise – except for one table in the corner – me thinks they were not supporting Spain….. We had been given hats by the local club supporters and were cheering on the Spanish, a fantastic night.
